On Cue Players - Gareen Ball |
|
Gareen has been involved in community theatre on and off since 1997 when she appeared as Cora Gump in A Bad year for Tomatoes. She has helped backstage with some productions; got conned in to helping with the Skeena Zone Drama Festival; played Helen in another production that she doesn’t even remember its name although she does remember it was 2000 and it was part of the Nibbles and Bits production. . Then in 2004 she decided to take on the challenging role of co-artistic director in “Funeral For a Gangster”. Since then, 2005 she has co-directed under Callida Junctura Theatre, two children’s Christmas productions, as well as the brilliant Neil Simon’s “Plaza Suite”.
“Directing a play is most time-consuming but also rewarding,” says Gareen. “I love the challenge of working with emerging talent to draw out their potential. That being said, a director cannot go it alone. There are many people behind the scenes which make a play come to life and to quote a line from this production ‘Oh, nuts, we’re all playing roles – We’re all acting’, pretty much sums it up.”
Gareen is proud to be a director of the On Cue Players production. She chose this play after reading five others while on route to China. It is the only one that made her laugh, yet at the same time has a message, "Is it Kosher to be Drinking Alone"?
